About JDRF & Type 1 Diabetes
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
JDRF's mission is to find a cure diabetes and its complications through the support of research. JDRF is the world's largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research and is responsible for more than $1.4 billion in direct funding since it was founded. JDRF funds research with the greatest impact throughout the world, leading to results as soon as possible.
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes. As a result, JDRF volunteers have a personal connection to type 1 diabetes, which translates into an unrelenting commitment to finding a cure. These volunteers are the driving force behind more than 100 locations worldwide that raise money and advocate for government spending for type 1 diabetes research.
More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. Because of its unwavering focus on its mission to find a cure, JDRF annually receives top rankings from independent sources that rate charitable giving.
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It strikes children and adults suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
People with type 1 diabetes must take at least two insulin shots each day or use an insulin pump, and test their blood sugar by pricking their finger six or more times per day. The disease is difficult to manage and requires constant attention and a rigorous regimen including careful attention to meal planning and exercise.
While insulin keeps people with type 1 diabetes alive, it is not a cure. Nor does it prevent its devastating effects: kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, amputations, heart attack, and stroke.
As many as three million Americans have type 1 diabetes. Each year, over 15,000 children are diagnosed with diabetes; that's 40 children every day.

Why JDRF is important to me.
I'm very fortunate to be able to do something I love for a living and I feel it's important to give back - it's something I'm supposed to do.
I want to be able to help kids and I'm also personally affected by diabetes, as so many of us are. My father is now on dialysis 3 days a week due to kidney failure from the long term affects of diabetes.
My former wife's niece was also diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at a young age and it was very difficult to see her have to deal with it. While she was quite good about treating her condition, it was very difficult to see and think about such a sweet little girl have to treat her diabetes for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, I know many of you reading this have similar experiences in your own life.
I ask all of you reading this to consider donating and spreading the word via links here and on our facebook pages. Every single dollar helps and is greatly appreciated.
The Plan - Updated 9/28/13:
We're happy to report that we will be racing in Lacrosse for Oktoberfest in conjunction with our fundraiser for JDRF!!! We will be competing with at least one car and possibly two, depending upon whether or not our house car is completed on time. Regardless, we be racing on Thursday night in the "Futures" event and Friday night in the "Dick Trickle 99" super late model events. We will also be racing in the Big 8 Series event on Saturday night, as a friend has donated his car for use for the weekend to ensure we are able to compete.
Depending upon the amount of sponsorship dollars we are able to generate, we will be donating at least a portion and possibly all of our race winnings to JDRF. JDRF will be shown as the primary sponsor on both cars, as we want to draw attention to the cause and increase donations (it should be noted we are not getting any money from JDRF, we are only donating money to them). We will also be collecting donations for JDRF at the track and the days before and after the actual race event. 100% of this money will be donated to JDRF on behalf of Oktoberfest Racers and Fans. You can also donate directly to JDRF by clicking here.
We are able to conduct this fundraiser due to the support of the great sponsors listed above. Please support these individuals and businesses as they truly care about kids and giving back to the community!
At this point, we'll have a JDRF car racing at least 3 days of fest and will be working to get JDRF logos on at least one additional car competing on Sunday. While we love to race, the goal of this project is to raise money and awareness for JDRF.
If you're interested in becoming involved with our fundraiser, please contact Dan Heying at Circle Track Specialties for more information.
